System Overview
Based on hydraulic engineering principles and backed by superior manufacturing standards worldwide, Buteline's innovative products provide dependable plumbing solutions that are time-proven.
Architects and specifiers are attracted by Buteline quality and security. The efficiency of installation appeals to tradesmen, and it is Buteline economics and reliability that are most important to end users' long-lasting peace of mind.
The Buteline Plumbing System is designed for hot and cold water reticulation using Polybutene-1 (PB-1) pipe and thermoplastic polymer fittings, or for cold water only using Polyethylene (PE) pipe and polymer fittings, utilising Buteline's proven and efficient clamping technique.
The Buteline Plumbing System has a proven performance record for over the past quarter of a century, and Buteline only selects materials which are specifically designed for their applications. Buteline always represents quality.
* Please note that 'Buteline' and 'Polybutene-1' ('Polybutylene') are not the same thing -- 'Buteline' refers to our brand of plumbing system (pipe, fittings, tools), 'Polybutene-1' is the name of the raw material from which plumbing pipe can be made.
Buteline Pipe
Buteline manufactures pipe from two specialist materials -- Polybutene-1 (PB-1) and Polyethylene (PE), both proven solutions for the conveyance of clean, healthy drinking water.
Buteline pipe is available for the following usages in the following sizes / materials:

Materials and Applications Guide

Buteline Fittings
Buteline fittings are integrally strong and durable, moulded from thermoplastic and pre-fitted with annealed aluminium sleeves. These fittings, once jointed with Buteline Polybutene-1 pipe, form a unique and technically superior joint.
Users will find the total concept much quicker and more economical than other available systems.
Buteline fittings are available from 10mm to 32mm.

Buteline Clamp Tools
Vital to the effectiveness of a plumbing system is the ability to have connections made securely. The way this is done with the Buteline Plumbing System is by inserting pipe into the fitting and clamping it.
Buteline clamp tools are robust, designed to perform up to a consistent high standard, and are easy to maintain (simply clean and lubricate moving parts regularly). All tools have been specifically engineered exclusively for the Buteline Plumbing System to ensure a simple, accurate, watertight joint every time. Our 'head' designs permit easy access and alignment.
A selection of different tools in varying sizes are available, some of which are pictured below.

Installation Method
The Buteline Plumbing System is designed to be used with complete confidence. You will get a simple, controlled accurate joint every time.
Installing the Buteline Plumbing System is simple and effective, below is a quick installation guide:
Step 1 Cut Buteline Pipe

Always use the Buteline pipe cutter to ensure a square, clean, burr free cut.
To assist the pipe cutting process slightly twist the cutter as you begin to cut.
Step 2 Position Buteline Fitting
Once you have cut the pipe, simply insert the pipe into the Buteline fitting and push fully home to the shoulder of the fitting.
Step 3 Clamp Fitting
Clamp the Buteline fitting, using ONLY the Buteline clamp tool.
Position the Buteline clamp tool squarely, approximately 2mm in from the end of the clamp ring.
Close handles to stops, hold in the tightly closed position for a moment to ensure that the flow of material is performed. Open and remove the tool.
* When burying Buteline fittings underground or when in contact with concrete (or when using for marine purposes), wrap the aluminium rings with PVC insulation tape or similar to prevent corrosion.
Step 4 All complete!
Installing the Buteline Plumbing System is quick and sure and always provides a visual indicator of joint completion.
As you can see, the process of using the Buteline system is quick, simple and highly efficient.
The joint itself is also very strong -- watch this Pipe Joint Strength Demo video to see just how strong.
